It’s January 14th. Top free agent third baseman Alex Bregman still doesn’t have a home. Could that result in him becoming a Washington National?

For the last month or so, it has appeared that Bregman would end up with one of his former Astros coaches in either Detroit (AJ Hinch) or Boston (Alex Cora). Both clubs are known to have at least engaged Bregman to some degree, and Cora in particular has been on the record saying he sees Bregman as a potential Gold Glove second baseman. The Mets, Blue Jays, Yankees, Phillies, and others have been linked to the longtime Astro to varying degrees, though the Yankees in particular have seemingly pivoted to cheaper options at the hot corner.

But even with a long list of suitors, Bregman still lingers on the market. The Nationals, who have seemed like a fit for a cheaper solution like Paul DeJong, Justin Turner, or Yoan Moncada, also have not found their third baseman yet despite doing the legwork to address several other roster spots already.
